Crusades-Project

Page history last edited by David Cross 12 years, 10 months ago

Overview

Students will create a Google Earth file that gives details to the various Crusades of the Middle Ages. In order to complete this project, students will need to research the routes taken by the Crusaders to get to the Holy Land, important stops or events along the way, and the short and long term effects of the Crusades, both specific to the chosen topic and to the Crusades in general. Students should consider a visit to the library for materials that will fill in more detail than found on most web sites.

Student Requirements

In order to complete this project, students must:

  • Select and research a specific Crusade;
  • Write one page of research on their chosen Crusade and recording the source of their information - this research is due on 1/13/2012. Research must be hand written along with the source where the info was found. Students may not "copy and paste" onto a word processor;
  • Identify locations where important events from their selected Crusade took place;
  • Gather the URL's for images related to the Crusade, or the Crusades in general;
  • As a group, create two images that will be used in their project;
  • Learn how to use Google Earth and how to save their work into a .kmz file;
  • Learn how to use some basic html coding which will assist in the creation of the kmz file;
  • Makes some general and specific conclusions about the Crusades and their chosen Crusade.

Assessment

Student projects will be assessed on the following:

  • Content. Are the facts accurate and relevant? Is it good information? Is there historical accuracy?
  • Images. Do the images fit the events and locations of the selected Crusade? Are they clear and sharp? Is there at least one image per placemark? (This includes the bibliography)
  • Placemarks. Are placemarks accurately placed and contain information regarding the event described.
  • Routes. Is there at least one route shown that roughly follows the route from Europe to the Holy Land?
  • Bibliography. Does the bibliography give details on all sources and images used in the creation of this project? Is the bibliography in MLA format? Use this tool to check your fomatting.
  • Conclusion. Does the conclusion discuss the effects of the selected Crusade, as well as the effects of the Crusades in general?
